Moulid: A Story of Success and New Hope Through Beekeeping
In the village of Alous, part of the Ighil commune, Moulid lives with his five children and works every day to build a better life for his family. He relies on the opportunities available in his land and community: growing a few crops, collecting walnuts and almonds, raising livestock, and keeping a small number of goats that contribute to his family’s livelihood. Like many families in the region, however, his family was deeply affected by the Al Haouz earthquake that struck the area in September 2023, disrupting livelihoods and changing living conditions for many people in the mountain villages.
His days begin by caring for and milking his animals, followed by collecting the eggs and vegetables available to him. He takes some of these products to the local market, earning a modest income to help meet his family’s needs. When he returns to the village, he looks for other opportunities to work, taking on jobs such as construction and harvesting, making use of every skill and opportunity available to him.
In the aftermath of the disaster, Amal Association launched livelihood recovery initiatives to help affected families rebuild their lives and regain sustainable sources of income. Moulid was among the beneficiaries who joined the association’s beekeeping project.
Although becoming a beekeeper had always been a dream of his, Moulid had never been able to afford the equipment needed to start. Through the project, he received beehives, the necessary equipment, and comprehensive training, giving him a real opportunity to establish an entirely new source of income and take a step toward a more stable future.

As part of its broader economic empowerment efforts, Amal Association continues to support livelihoods and income-generating opportunities for families in the Ighil area. The beekeeping and honey production project gives members of the local community the opportunity to develop practical skills, produce high-quality honey, and build a source of income that can grow over time. TIZI Honey is part of this vision, connecting the natural resources of the High Atlas with local knowledge and community-led economic development, while creating pathways toward wider markets.

Producing and selling our own honey has given us hope again and inspired us to work toward building a better future for our community.”
Moulid’s ambition, however, does not stop with honey. “We decided to take the first step, and that is to establish a cooperative, God willing, so that we can sell our products. We don’t want to limit ourselves to pure TIZI honey. There are other products that we would like to offer, but we need the necessary licenses to sell them in larger markets.” His dream is not simply about selling honey; it is about building a stronger local economy in which the products of the mountains can become a source of income, dignity, and greater independence. From earthquake recovery to economic resilience, Moulid’s journey shows how initiatives such as beekeeping and cooperatives can help families move beyond rebuilding what was lost and begin creating a better future with their own hands.
